The Revel Digital Collective founders are former magazine editors and award-winning content directors. We worked together at major publishing companies, then moved on to do content marketing and editorial strategy for brands. After seeing much individual growth and success working independently, we experienced the limitations of being solopreneurs and often leaned on each other for support.
Anyone doing it all on their own can attest that it gets lonely. It’s more fun and meaningful to be “in it together.” Plus, we’ve always loved collaborating and have been aligned in our work ethic and values since day one. Speaking of now, why did we start a content marketing agency in 2020?
We committed to building this content marketing agency months ago, and at that time we definitely didn’t expect what the world had in store. (Thanks, 2020.) So when our plans were put to the test by a global pandemic and deep domestic unrest, we channeled one client, whose brilliant career kicked off at a very inconvenient time.
When this prominent female founder and CEO launched her business in 2005, the timing seemed all wrong. She was pregnant with her fourth child, her other kids were under age six, and she already had a successful career in media. Popular belief told her it was not a good idea to embark on a new endeavor at that time. But the truth is, there’s never a perfect time to start a business. In fact, she quickly learned that a significant life change provides an excellent opportunity for adopting new habits since your entire life is already in flux.
There’s no better way to describe this year than “in flux.” We’ve definitely felt it on our ends. Abby welcomed her firstborn this summer, Amanda has been parenting a toddler and a preschooler 24/7 while working, and Cristina is in limbo on a huge cross-country move from New York to San Francisco. But as things slowed down (in the most chaotic way possible), it also provided an opportunity to incubate something new, flesh out our strategic vision, and prioritize doing what we love in the face of unprecedented challenges.
